About Us

For many years Dr. Kris and Petra trained side by side in the same obedience classes at Top Dog Obedience School. Neither realized the other was interested in rehabilitating canines. It took a mutual friend to plant the seed and get Kris and Petra talking… The result is Aqua Dog Rehabilitation!

Aqua Dog Rehabilitation is the realization of a dream Kris has had for over 4 years. Kris has a passion for all animals, but she carries a special place in her heart for the geriatric population. She realized how much canine rehabilitation can decrease pain and increase quality of life for these dogs who have given so much of themselves. This was the birth of her dream.

Petra first became interested in rehabilitation while field training her dogs. She realized what amazing athletes our dogs are and that they should be treated as such. She later realized that canine rehabilitation can benefit all dogs - not only the canine athlete.

Petra Ford, P.T., CCRT (Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist)
Petra graduated from UMDNJ School of Health Related Professions in 1998 and has worked with an extremely varied caseload including pediatric through geriatric clients with a large variety of diagnosis. Her areas of expertise include in-patient rehabilitation, orthopedics and neurology.

With a strong background in physical fitness and training, Petra raced bicycles at the professional level and participated in international events. Currently, she is an avid runner and practices yoga.

Petra has always loved animals and started training dogs in 2002. She has trained one of her labs for agility, as well as trained and trialed two of her Labrador retrievers in field work and obedience.

Petra has decided to combine her passions (dogs, fitness and physical therapy) into one—canine rehabilitation and fitness. Petra attended the Canine Rehabilitation Institute (www.caninerehabinstitute.com) and is now a fully certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist.

Her black Labrador Retriever, Tyler, has the distinction of being the 2008 and 2009 National Obedience Champion and placing second in the 2010 World Obedience Championship at Crufts. Also in 2010, Tyler was awarded 1st Runner Up at the National Obedience Championship.

Kristine A. Conway, D.V.M.
Kristine graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in1989 and has been at Hodes Veterinary Group for 16 years.

Her interest in rehabilitation started while swimming her own dogs for conditioning. She got to witness first hand the benefits of aqua therapy on one of her own dogs who had hip dysplasia.

Kristine currently hikes, mountain bikes, runs and swims with her dogs to keep them in optimum shape for obedience, agility and schutzhund.

Kristine's clients, looking for alternatives to drugs to improve their pets’ quality of life, lead her to pursue canine rehabilitation. Her certification in canine rehabilitation will be completed in December 2010 at the University of Tennessee.
